Private Malaga For Art Lovers
Feast your senses on two of the most intriguing art galleries in Europe on this 5-hour shore excursion. This was the birthplace of Picasso, considered one of the best artists of the 20th century. Although he spent most of his life in Barcelona and Paris, Picasso never forgot his origins and he always longed for a museum devoted to his figure in Malaga. In 2003, his dream came true, namely, Museum of Picasso in Malaga: a space installed in Buenavista Palace, where more than 200 works are displayed - most of them donated by Christine and Bernard Picasso, the artist's daughter in law and grandson, who fulfilled Picasso's dream and fascinate us all.
Meet your guide directly at the terminal gate and board your private, comfortable coach for a scenic tour of Malaga. Visit the Montes de Malaga mountain range to reach the Gibralfaro Castle, a 10th century Moorish fortress and enjoy a bird view of Malaga form the Mirador nearby. Continue your scenic exploration and see the Malaga lighthouse, Malaga's main districts including El Limonar and La Malagueta, Reding Avenue, La Alameda and the Bullring.
Next you will follow your expert guide to view the art at the Glass and Crystal Museum. Opened in 2009, the museum has around 700 pieces of glass, dating from Phoenician times to the 20th century. Housed in an 18th-century casa palacio in the center of Malaga, with spacious patios and gardens, it is furnished like a private home, with antique sofas, rugs, mirrors and paintings, and cabinets for the glass. Owner Gonzalo Fernandez-Prieto has, in effect, created a decorative arts museum with an intimate atmosphere.
Continue your art appreciation visit and reach the Carmen Thyssen Museum located in a 16th century palace. Most visitors to Malaga go to the Picasso Museum and his boyhood home, as the painter is the most famous son of the city. But the Carmen Thyssen Museum is also a first-rate art museum which focuses on Andalusian art. Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, one of the world's foremost art collectors, now has her own eponymous museum in Malaga, which opened in March 2011. The paintings are from her personal collection, amassed over the past 30 years. Carmen was one of the world biggest art collector that has blessed this world. The permanent collection consists of 230 works, mainly by 19th century Spanish artists, with most of the subject matter being, unsurprisingly, Andalucia: Cordoba, Malaga, Sevilla. The most famous painters whose works feature in this collection are Zurbaran, Sorolla, Zuloaga, and Romero Torres. Part of the exhibition includes a series of paintings dedicated to Romantic landscapes, "costumbrismo" which depict customs and manners as well as naturalist landscapes.
During your walking tour, you will see some of Malaga's main landmarks in the historical center like the Roman Theatre, Calle Alcazabilla, the Alameda del Parque, Malaga Cathedral, Plaza de la Merced, Calle Granada, Picasso's birthplace, the Church of Santiago, Buenavista Palace, Plaza de la Constitucion, Calle Larios and the colorful Atarazanas market.
Your tour will end in Malaga's historical center where you can enjoy some free time for independent exploration before returning to your ship.
