Private Exploration of Alsace and Wine
Start your day with a trip along the celebrated Routes des Vins d'Alsace, a 105-mile road that weaves its way through the lush vineyard-decorated slopes of the magnificent Vosges Mountains. Relax as you pass serene landscapes and learn about the rich diversity of grapes grown in this region as you make your way to your first stop.
Encounter an esteemed wine-producing family in the charming ancient (UNESCO) village of Eguisheim, where you will bask in the breathtaking scenery and taste multi-award-winning wines that are produced strictly in accordance with organic and bio-dynamic practices. The wines served here are highly respected and venerated not only by wine professionals and journalists, but by wine lovers and connoisseurs around the globe.
Next, visit the alluringly beautiful medieval village of Riquewihr, which is considered to be one of the most picturesque villages in Alsace. Many of the most exquisite dry white wines are produced in Riquewihr, including Riesling and sparkling Cremant d'Alsace, which is made using the traditional champagne method. Here you will taste the Cremant d'Alsace and the fragrant Gewurztraminer wine, before receiving one hour of free time to have lunch, further explore or shop for souvenirs.
After your free time, depart for the Schonenbourg Grand Cru vineyard, where you will enjoy a glass of exquisite wine while standing amidst the vines from which that wine was created. Walk along the aged vines with a chilled glass of wine in your hand, survey the medieval villages that pepper this pristine landscape, and breathe in the fresh air. Then you will proceed to the delightful old village of Kientzheim, where you will visit a fabulous artisanal winery and taste some of the most exciting and critically acclaimed wines produced from the region.
Your day ends with a tasting at a winery in the charming old town of Ribeauville, located at the very heart of the Alsatian region, where you will taste the driest and fruitiest of Rieslings alongside many of the most sumptuously noble grapes to be found in Alsace, including Sylvaner, Muscat, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc.
You will then be returned to your cruise ship in Basel.
