Caribbean Princess Cruise Review - Day 3

Monday - March 11th

The thrashing of a knock threw Megan out of bed, hurling toward the door to grab our breakfast and not make room service wait any longer during our groggy state of waking up. A change of pace this morning, we had ordered apple juice, orange slices, pastries and well, the usual tea. We were to spend the day at sea, but wanted to be woken to breakfast at 8 a.m. so we would have plenty of time to attend the day's activities - we had a lot in store for the day ahead.

After the usual morning routine of the balcony, reading, and preparing ourselves for the day, we headed up to the gym to enjoy a stretch & release class which covered pre-workout and post-workout stretches, the importance of foot support on the back, and a foot analysis of the arches on our feet. It wasn't exactly the light yoga class that we thought it would be, but that explained why the gym offered separate yoga classes at a small fee.

Following the class, we grabbed some extra food from the buffet and sat by an oceanside window to watch the ship sail as we ate.

Next on the agenda was music trivia out by Neptune's Reef and Pool, hosted by the Cruise Director Matt who danced along to the music, sang along to the lyrics, and made the trivia fun for all age groups. Our job was to guess the names of the songs based on short clips played, with the potential award of a Princess cruise tote bag. Considering that most of the songs played were from the 60s and 70s, and we're both 90s kids, we didn't do too shabby at 13 out of 20 responses correct.

After reveling in our success of getting so many answers right, we decided to treat ourselves at the ship's Pamper Party, held in Skywalkers Nightclub, where we got free samples of an ELEMIS cleanser, moisturizer, toner, and collagen eye cream.

Heading back into the World Fresh Marketplace once again for a small snack, we contemplated our next stop - Afternoon Tea at the Coral Dining Room, a similar room setup to the Island Dining Room. When we arrived, we were asked if we'd like to dine alone or in a group. We chose to sit alone for our first go but many strangers congregated together at various tables throughout the restaurant to get to know each other while snacking on tea, sandwiches, sweet bites and scones.

After filling up on tea and dessert, we decided to try out a different pool this time and headed back over to Neptune's Reef and Pool to go in the hot tub and chat with other cruisers.

After a relaxed day of trivia, pampering, stretching and sun basking, the night was quite a bit different than we expected though. Our daily itinerary labelled the dress code of this particular night as formal, but we hadn't realized how formal people were actually going to dress. Out in a sundress and sandals, I thought I'd look fine but with passerby in tuxedos and ball gowns, Megan and I soon realized how out of place we looked. We hadn't packed anything very nice for the trip, aside from casual wear, beach clothes, and the occasional sundress!

We didn't let this fashion faux pas ruin the night though; we proudly flaunted our casual-wear as we grabbed dinner at the Coral Dining Room and devoured the beautifully plated dishes and elaborate chef desserts.

Following the dinner, we decided to go out and be lively (unlike our more relaxed nights for both nights before) and check out the events going on in the Explorers Lounge, the ship's casual lounge and entertainment area.

We caught the Yes/No Game Show where cruise guests were called up to the stage and had 3 minutes to undergo questioning by the Cruise Director Matt and if they could complete the 3 minutes, they'd get a special prize of a bottle of champagne. The catch though is that during those 3 minutes, they couldn't say the words yes or no in any language. This may seem simple, but some guests blurted out the forbidden words within the first 3 seconds! Matt, himself, was put to the challenge at the end of the show though by 3 second Sherry as she was called back to the stage to break down Matt's ego and he crumbled under the pressure.

Once our stomachs ached from laughter, we headed over to the bar to grab some extra glasses of water and then found ourselves better seats up front to catch the day's auditions for the Voice of the Ocean, the cruise ship's karaoke contest set to the theme of the hit TV show, the Voice. There weren't any swiveling chairs at this pre-show audition, as the more elaborate set-up would take place later on our last day in the Princess Theater.

We truly underestimated our fellow cruise guests, as Megan practically spit out her water in shock when cruise passenger Larry sang the first few lyrics from Frank Sinatra's New York. Another passenger then took the stage wearing glorious white knee high boots singing about how they were made for walkin'. But of all the auditions, our favorite was a short intermission by a young child who said he loved Bruno Mars and began, with a grin, singing lyrics from That's What I Like.

After running into Larry after the show and Megan confessing her fangirl-dom to him, we decided to party it up at Skywalkers Nightclub. Dancing up the ramp to the club, we were excited to see what its atmosphere would be like at night vs. during the day. Once we arrived and saw the neon dance floor and everyone grabbing drinks from the bar though, we didn't quite know how we'd fit in as we were only in the mood for water and didn't have the courage to boogie. Immediately turning around in intimidation, we took our Apple Bottom Jeans down the stairs, and flicked on Netflix back at our cabin - much more our style.
