NCL's Smoking and Alcohol Policies

To ensure the comfort and safety of all guests onboard Norwegian Cruise Line, there are set smoking and alcohol policies guests are expected to follow on their Norwegian cruise.
The ships of Norwegian are considered non-smoking; however, there are certain public and private areas that are designated ‘smoking areas.’
Smoking in staterooms and on balconies is prohibited.
Smoking is permitted in the casino, Cigar Bar and designated outdoor areas (where ashtrays and appropriate signage will be displayed). The location of all smoking venues can also be found in the daily newsletter or by visiting Guest Services once onboard.
Pipe and cigar smoking is permitted on designated open decks or in The Cigar Bar; Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Spirit have cigar bars.
Smoking is not allowed in any stateroom, food venue, sports deck, kids’ pool areas, The Haven and other designated nonsmoking areas. If a guest violates Norwegian’s smoking policy, they will be charged a $250 penalty to their onboard account.
Tip: If interested in a balcony stateroom, guests that smoke may look into booking a balcony as far aft as possible as the smoke tends to drift back while the ship is on the go. If extremely sensitive to smoke, guests may look into booking a balcony more forward on the ship.
The minimum drinking age across Norwegian’s fleet is:
- Twenty-one (21) years of age or older to purchase or consume alcohol.
- Eighteen (18) – when sailing in international waters, with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii itineraries. Norwegian permits passengers 18-20 to purchase and personally consume wine and beer only while onboard and with the consent of an accompanying parent. Parents must sign the Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver Form they can find at the Guest Services Desk onboard.
- Eighteen (18) and sailing round-trip in Europe, passengers are not required to fill out the Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver Form.
Boarding the ship with alcohol:
Guests are allowed to bring wine and champagne onboard on embarkation day. Each bottle will be charged a corkage fee (no boxed wine allowed):
- 750 ml Bottle: $15.00
- 1,500 ml Magnum: $30.00
All other liquor or beer is prohibited and not allowed onboard. Security at the cruise terminal will inspect and dispose of containers holding any alcohol (water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, etc.), so please be mindful of the alcohol policy in order to avoid any repercussions.
If any alcohol is purchased in the duty-free shop onboard or in a port-of-call it will be stored and retained until the end of the cruise. It will be available for pick up in a designated area.
Norwegian encourages the responsible use of alcohol and accordingly reserves the right to permanently or temporarily revoke the drinking privileges of any guest who violates Norwegian’s Guest Code of Conduct or who is deemed a danger to himself, herself or others by vessel management. Continued abuse of alcohol while sailing and/or violation of Norwegian’s alcohol policy may result in immediate disembarkation.
Norwegian Cruise Line beverage packages:
Norwegian Cruise Line is currently testing an all-you-can-drink alcohol package, offered on three of their 11 liners – the Norwegian Sun, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Jade. Packages go for $49 per person per day plus gratuity of 15%, though further details of what the package includes have yet to be released.
