The idea of a floating city was once wishful thinking. Today, these miraculous ocean liners come equipped with robotic bartenders, rock climbing walls, wave runners, and more. With the vast progression in the last decade, we can’t help but wonder, what does the future hold for the cruise industry? Here is a sneak peek of the incredible technology to come aboard these futuristic sailings.
The Celebrity Edge will debut in December 2018 with a number of firsts for the industry. The highly anticipated Magic Carpet; a floating platform cantilevered off the side of the ship. This deck will rise between decks 2 through 16 and include a bar and restaurant. The Edge will also feature Infinite Veranda cabins, designed with bi-fold doors, as well as the Rooftop Garden, and The Retreat; a resort like area where suite level passengers will have access to a private pool, sundeck, and lounge.

The Sky Princess will be the fourth Royal class ship from Princess Cruises. This ocean liner will have its inaugural sailing in November 2019 and will feature a three deck Piazza atrium, World Fresh Market Place, Sanctuary, and 80% balcony capacity.
The Carnival Panorama will have similar features to its sister ship, Carnival Vista, which debuted in the Spring of 2016. The Panorama will offer countless activities such as a basketball court, bowling, outdoor soccer, volleyball, and much more. The Serenity Adult Only Retreat will allow adults to find a little peace and quiet amongst the fun. And last but certainly not least, Lip Sync Battle! Carnival’s newest ship will feature a stage version of the hit TV series where the winner will receive an exclusive prize.
The newest and most innovative ocean liner from Norwegian Cruise Line will debut in the fall of 2019. The 1,094 ft long ship will leave no rock unturned when it comes to entertainment and accommodations. Activities onboard are said to include a two story Horizon Lounge with panoramic sea views - offered exclusively to The Haven guests. Envision toasting to the sunset in a 180-degree indoor Observation Lounge: this new feature to the Encore will include Floor-to-Ceiling windows as well as a full service bar.
The newest ship from the all-inclusive ultra-luxury line is slated to have its inaugural sailing in February of 2020. The elite ship will offer free Wi-Fi, spacious marble and stone staterooms, and if you are lucky enough to stay in the Regent Suite - a $150,000 European bed. All dining rooms will be set with the finest silverware and china from designers like Versace and Bernardaud. In addition, all specialty restaurants are inclusive and will feature multi-course a la carte options as well as special tasting menus.
MSC Meraviglia Plus 2 - September 2020
The MSC Meraviglia Plus 2 will measure an unbelievable 331 meters long with 2,444 cabins to accommodate nearly 6,300 passengers. This mega ship will include a 111 meter long indoor promenade with numerous bars, restaurants, and shops. The promenade will feature a “digital sky” LED screen which will project events and vistas all night long. The new ship will also offer a double-deck indoor amusement park, double deck entertainment and aft lounge, and outdoor waterpark.
Royal Caribbean - Unnamed 2022
The details on this futuristic ocean liner are scarce but the Royal Caribbean ship will be powered by liquefied natural gas and use fuel cell technology in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
