Majesty of the Seas Review - Day 1
Saturday - June 15th
My husband Bryant and I decided to beat the crowd as we arrived at Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale later than usual at 1:30 p.m. for our 4-night Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas cruise to Key West and the Bahamas. There was still a line when we got there, however it was a relatively speedy check-in to obtain our sea-passes.
Walking onto the Majesty of the Seas ship, we were greeted by Spanish music and a smaller crowd than we've previously experienced on cruises since this was a smaller ship. As per the husband's request, we headed straight to the buffet lunch at the Windjammer and grabbed burgers and hotdogs to start off our vacation.
After enjoying our meal, we headed to our Majesty of the Seas oceanview stateroom on the 7th deck to check out what was waiting for us - fantastic, fluffy pillows, a perfectly sized closet, and a spacious bathroom. Gladly reaching for the day's itinerary laid out for us on our bed, we decided the day's plan - to go to trivia at 5 p.m. and the 70's disco at 9:45 p.m.
Noticing our luggage had not yet arrived, we were concerned about where ours could be. I kept peeking my head out our door to see if our suitcases had arrived, but nothing until an hour passed and Bryant walked out into the hallway, finding our bags down yonder with other guests' luggage by the deck lobby.
Feeling relieved, we unpacked and made ourselves at home in our cute Majesty of the Seas room. Having done interior stateroomstvteqywrbtcswvusvueuts before for the obvious reason that they're cheaper, I admit that having a window with light really is worth it. Otherwise, we could end up sleeping in until 2 p.m. everyday, having no idea what time it is in a pitch black room.
After unpacking, we ventured out and explored the ship more, finding some deck chairs to post up on and watch the ship sail away from Fort Lauderdale.

Then we proceeded to get a little lost (no drinks were involved, I promise) until we realized we were slightly hungry and each grabbed a slice of pizza from Sorrento's. Getting back to our exploration, we stumbled upon the busy basketball court next to ping pong tables, shuffleboard, and wait for it - a climbing wall! Shuffleboard being the only activity not occupied by frantic teens, we decided to play. Having never played shuffleboard before, I was happy to get 49 points, and so was Bryant, winning with 51!
Noticing the time, we headed to our 5 p.m. trivia at the Schooner Bar (or as our friend Dave onboard called it the Amy Schumer Bar). Posted up ready to rock for trivia, we answered questions ranging from how many keys are on a piano to how many hours a day a koala sleeps. We were shocked to get 12/20 correct, the highest score in the crowd being 13! Feeling satisfied with our answers, we each happily accepted the amazing prize of a keychain.
We then headed back to our room to shower and look more alive for the evening. Realizing there was more trivia on the itinerary, we contemplated whether 70s music trivia was up our alley (we were both born in the 90s). After a good win earlier that day though, we were feeling confident.
Recognizing the convenient location of our room near the Schooner Bar, we nodded in agreement that every night for the rest of our cruise, we'd dedicate our time onboard to trivia.
As we waited for the music to start playing for trivia, some lovely folks beside us struck up conversation, guessing our ages (part of being the youngest people playing music trivia I suppose). In the end, the two of us got 9/15 correct - not too bad for a couple of millenials!
Still filled with confidence, we decided to check out the (very busy) casino where Bryant tried his hand at roulette. Unfortunately he lost, breaking our success streak.
After this sad defeat, we headed over to Starlight for our 8 p.m. dining time. We were sat with another couple, who were similar ages to us, and enjoyed their company. Our lovely server recommended to us the best items on the night's menu (the menu changes every night). I took her advice and ordered the goat cheese and arugula salad to start, short rib for my main dish, and panna cotta for dessert. Having never tried escargot before, Bryant decided this was the time and ordered his appetizer, along with NY strip for his main dish, and creme brulee for dessert.
Leaving the lovely dinner, we exhaustingly strolled the ship and decided to skip out on disco for the night, heading back to our Majesty of the Seas room to hit the hay for the night.
